Funding the Future for Workforce 2020 – Petaluma Educational Foundation’s 2012 Major Impact Grant Winners

Written By: Frances Rivetti - Mar• 14•12

Petaluma Educational Foundation has reached two major milestones during this, its 30th anniversary year. An incredible two million dollar mark has been reached for grants awarded to classrooms throughout Petaluma area schools over the past three decades, as well as an additional two million dollars (including this year’s projected awards ) in scholarships to city-wide graduating high school seniors.

Major Impact Grants of up to $15,000 were created by PEF in 2010, each year shining the spotlight on innovation in funding the future of thousands of students in select Petaluma area schools. This year, 14 technology-focused, Major Impact Grants are being funded totaling $158,000.

Petaluma Educational Foundation also continues to embrace its long-established, vitally important Enrichment Grant Program for grants up to $2,000 for curriculum projects that supplement, support, and enrich the student experience.

In addition to this year’s outstanding Major Impact Grant, a substantial 29 Enrichment Grants of up to $2,000 each are currently being awarded to schools across the city and into the surrounding area, amounting to over $41,000.

Community partnership is key, as PEF receives no public funding. The majority of this year’s Major Impact Grants were technology based, in keeping with the foundation’s new TEC Initiative to fully prepare Petaluma’s students as Workforce 2020. Long time PEF supporters, Clover Stornetta Farms and Petaluma Market have stepped up in support of PEF’s 30th Anniversary with each local business pledging $30,000 in corporate sponsorship for the year.

Corporate partnerships and individual support are vital to the ongoing funding of these vital grants at a time of unprecedented need. To find out more about a potential partnership with PEF or to establish an annual scholarship fund in the name of a loved one or local organization, click here.
